There's almost no scenario that a stickman can't fit into, but they frequently find themselves fighting all sorts of battles. In this game, they're in a desert war scenario where they're fighting a large force using a mix of old and modern weaponry. Even though your stickmen may have more advanced equipment that won't do much against huge numbers, you must balance defense and offense to keep your stickmen safe and the enemy from getting too close. Unfortunately, you may have to accept the fact that not even strategy can save you from being overwhelmed when what you need to work for is better gear.
